Courses

The Salem County Department of Health & Human Services offers a variety of trainings available to Salem County community members, businesses, organizations, agencies and schools. These courses include:

American Heart Association CPR/AED, Narcan, & Basic First Aid

  • Heartsavers offers CPR, AED, Narcan, Choking, and First Aid Basics for adults, children, and infants. This course is aimed at the general public (Camp Counselors, Coaches, Babysitters, etc.) and is approx. 3 hours followed by a written and practical examination.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Offers 1 and 2-person rescuer CPR/AED training, basic intubation methods, and High-Performance Team Dynamics. This course is aimed at medical/emergency professionals in pre-hospital settings and is approx. 4 hours followed by a written and practical exam.

Stress Busters for Caregivers

  • If you’re responsible for caring for a loved one, whether you’re an in-home caregiver, caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, or have a family member in an assisted living community, caregiver support groups are away for you and other caregivers to share your experiences. Stressbusters Caregiver Support Group will include information, insight, advice, or words of encouragement. Each person in the support group can learn from others who face similar challenges.

A Matter of Balance

  • A Matter of Balance is a program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Classes include discussion on various ways to prevent falls, empowerment, and positive reinforcement as well as an exercise portion to help strengthen muscles. Class is held twice per week for approximately 2 hours

Wellness Initiative Senior Education (WISE)

  • Session topics include medication use and misuse, stress management, the aging process, depression, alcoholism and prescription drug abuse. This program is offered to seniors in Salem County.

ServSafe Certification

  • The Salem County Department of Health and Human Services is proud to now offer ServSafe Food Manager certification and recertification courses for retail food establishments that is in compliance with the requirement set forth in NJAC 8:24-2.1(b). Please visit HERE for more details.
