Move Yourself! Salem County Expands Exercise Program at New Location and Announces 2019 Schedule

The Salem County Department of Health & Human Services announces its January 2019 schedule for the Move Yourself! Salem County exercise program. Offered exercise classes include Core Strength, High Intensity Interval Training, Chair Yoga, Indoor Walking, and Stretch & Strength.  The indoor exercises will take place at a new time of 10:30 am every Tuesday and Thursday at the Mid-Atlantic States Training Center (formerly known as Queen of Apostles), 391 South Broadway, Pennsville.pain medication for seniors

These low impact exercises are great for a beginner, senior, or disabled individual. The exercise program is part of the We Can! campaign to encourage residents with special needs to participate. Caregivers and support staff are welcomed to attend. If a special needs resident requires transportation please contact the Salem County Office of Aging at (856) 339-8644 in advance.

On Thursday, January 24, a presentation by the Salem County Office of Alcohol and Drug Services on “Seniors and pain medication”  will be offered after the High Intensity Interval Training  at 11:30 am. Please call (856) 339-8622 to register for this special event.

The Office of Aging is offering free box lunches to seniors whom participate on Tuesday, January 15 and Thursday, January 24. To receive the free boxed lunch, the participant must be over 60 years of age, fill out a small registration form, and RSVP by 8:00 am the day before. Seniors must call (856) 339-8622 to register for the boxed lunch. The box lunch prepared by the Italian Kitchen of Pennsville meets the nutrition requirements of the State Office of Aging.

Below is the list of dates, all exercise classes will be held 10:30 am at the Mid-Atlantic States Training Center, 391 South Broadway, Pennsville (see map below).

  • Thursday, January 3 – Chair Yoga (optional yoga mat)
  • Tuesday, January 8 – Strength (optional 2-5 lb hand weights)
  • Thursday, January 10 – Stretch
  • Tuesday, January 15 – Indoor Walk (optional 2-5 lb hand weights)
  • Thursday, January 17 – Chair Yoga (optional yoga mat)
  • Tuesday, January 22 – Core Strength/Indoor Walk
  • Thursday, January 24 – High Intensity Interval Training
  • Tuesday, January 29 – Stretch
  • Thursday, January 31 – Strength (optional 2-5 lb hand weights)
