Get Past Plastic! – May 4, 2022

P.L 2020 Chapter 117, New Jersey’s ban on Single-Use Carryout Bags, ban on Polystyrene Foam Food Service Products, and Plastic Straws By-Request-Only, is effective May 4, 2022.

What does this mean for me, as a consumer?

  1. Bring your own bag when shopping at stores and food service establishments.
  2. Food items will no longer be dispensed in polystyrene containers.
  3. You must request a sing-use plastic straw if you require one.

What does this mean for me, as a business owner?

  1. You may no longer provide or sell single-use plastic carryout bags.
    Additionally, grocery stores may no longer provide paper carryout bags.
  2. You may no longer provide or sell any polystyrene foam food service products.
  3. Sing-use plastic straws may be provided only at the request of the consumer.
    A stock of single-use plastic straws must be kept available for this purpose.
