Volunteer Opportunities

Are you interested in volunteering for the Salem County Department of Health & Human Services? SCDHHS offers a variety of opportunities for you to volunteer, even from the comfort of your own home! Volunteer opportunities include:

Medical Reserve Corps

  • The Salem County Medical Reserve Corps (SCMRC) is a group of area health professionals and community volunteers that are part of the state and national network of citizens to assist public health agencies in responding to natural and man-made disasters. Training is offered to MRC volunteers on-line and in person. Training covers shelter operations, distributing medications, the Incident Command System and many other topics. As a volunteer you will be invited to participate in exercises, clinics, and community events. All of these are optional and offered to increase your knowledge and skills. Care Connections

  • Care Connections program connects volunteers and participants ages 18 and over through a weekly telephone conversation that creates connection, reduces social isolation, and cultivates relationships between participants. For more information on Salem County MRC, please visit HERE.

COVID-19 Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Clinics

  • Volunteers will provide assistance at Salem County Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 and Seasonal Influenza Vaccination clinics helping with set up, breakdown, traffic control, registration, form checking, etc. For more information on COVID-19 vaccine, please visit HERE. Staffing Support at Department Events

  • Volunteers will provide assistance at Salem County Department of Health and Human Services events helping with set up, breakdown, traffic control, registration, serving, etc.

Matter of Balance Coaching

  • A Matter of Balance is a program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Classes include discussion on various ways to prevent falls, empowerment, and positive reinforcement as well as an exercise portion to help strengthen muscles. Volunteers will be trained to become a Matter of Balance coach. Pantry Stretcher/Friendly Visits

Pantry Stretcher & Friendly Visits

  • The Pantry Stretcher Program provides monthly deliveries of non-perishable food and friendly visits to participants who may not be able to secure home delivered meals otherwise or have a limited ability to shop independently. Volunteers assist with deliveries.
